Update:  AIS MOB distress alert in position 55 59.59N 000 58.98E investigated and searched by numerous search and rescue assets with no one found in distress. Alert determined to be spurious. Aberdeen, Scotland – November 22, 2024 – The UK Coastguard is urgently seeking information regarding a man overboard incident that occurred in the North Sea on Wednesday afternoon. An Automatic Identification System (AIS) Man Overboard (MOB) device, with the unique identification number MMSI 972605523, was activated at approximately 2:21 PM UTC in a position 55.59.59 North, 000.58.98 East.  Despite extensive searches, the Coastguard has yet to locate any vessel or individual associated with the activated MOB device. The MMSI number, which is used to identify vessels and their equipment on the water, does not correspond to any known ship. The UK Coastguard is urging any vessels in the area to maintain a sharp lookout and report any sightings to the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Aberdeen

The Indian Coast Guard has issued an urgent marine broadcast requesting all mariners transiting the area to keep a sharp lookout for the stranded Indian fishing vessel, Arul Raj (Regn No. IND-TN-06-MM-6483), which is currently drifting due to engine failure since 19 Nov 24. The vessel is located in position 13 degrees 13 minutes North and 71 degrees 06 minutes East. The Arul Raj is a 20-meter long fishing vessel with ten crew members onboard, who are in urgent need of assistance due to the engine failure. The Indian Coast Guard has advised all mariners in the area to render necessary assistance upon sighting the distressed vessel while informing the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai. The Indian Coast Guard is committed to ensuring the safety of life at sea and has requested all mariners to maintain a sharp lookout for the stranded vessel and provide any necessary assistance.

The Peruvian Maritime Safety Information Coordinator has announced that the research vessel (R/V) Atlantis will be conducting surface to depth operations from November 24, 2022, at 23:09:00 UTC to December 24, 2022, at 20:09:00 UTC. The operations will take place in a 110 nautical mile radius at coordinates 18-35S, 113-21W in the South Pacific Ocean. The vessel reported being located at 15°35'37"N 033°03'00"W with two people on board and one dog. The captain indicated that they were experiencing significant rudder problems and water ingress. A Mayday call was issued, and all vessels in the vicinity were requested to proceed to assist. However, a discrepancy has arisen regarding the vessel's identity. Marine records indicate that a sailing vessel named Siracusa is already registered with the MMSI number 224182620, a Spanish-flagged vessel measuring 16 meters in length and 5 meters in width.
