Man Overboard Incident Reported from Moby Legacy – Search and Rescue Operations Ongoing

The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (IMRCC) in Rome has issued an urgent alert to all vessels navigating in the western Mediterranean, following a man overboard (MOB) report from the Ro-Ro/Passenger ship Moby Legacy (IMO: 9837511).

According to the official notification, the individual was last seen on February 17, 2025, at 17:02 UTC in the vicinity of latitude 42°02' N and longitude 009°39' E, an area located near the Strait of Bonifacio between Sardinia and Corsica.

In compliance with international maritime obligations under the SOLAS Convention and the 1979 Hamburg SAR Convention, IMRCC Rome is coordinating an extensive search and urges all vessels in the area to maintain a vigilant lookout and report any sightings.

Weather Conditions:
The current weather in the search area includes northeasterly winds at 5 knots, gusting up to 8 knots, with partly cloudy skies and slight sea conditions. However, a deterioration in weather is forecasted for tomorrow.
