Distress Signal from Fedor Konyukhov's Rowing Vessel "AKROS" in the Southern Indian Ocean

On March 28, 2025, at 10:26 UTC, the Réunion Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Réunion) received a distress signal from the rowing vessel "AKROS," helmed by renowned Russian adventurer Fedor Konyukhov. The reported position was 42°25.67'S 59°30.60'E in the southern Indian Ocean. MRCC Réunion issued a MAYDAY RELAY, requesting immediate evacuation and urging all nearby vessels to assist and report any information regarding the distress.​



Fedor Konyukhov is celebrated for his extreme solo expeditions, including ocean crossings. In 2019, he completed a solo voyage across the South Pacific Ocean from New Zealand to Cape Horn aboard the "AKROS," a specially designed rowing boat built to withstand harsh oceanic conditions. The "AKROS" is equipped with advanced navigation and safety technologies, including satellite communication systems like Inmarsat, which facilitated the distress signal.​



As of now, further details regarding the circumstances leading to the distress signal are unavailable. Authorities are coordinating search and rescue operations, and nearby vessels have been alerted to provide assistance. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.​

Search and Rescue Operation for Overdue Aircraft in Ligurian Sea

Issued by IMRCC Rome - Italian Coast Guard Date: September 17, 2024 To: All Ships Transiting in the Ligurian Sea  A white and grey aircraft with blue stripes is overdue and a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated.  In accordance with the SOLAS Convention and the SAR Convention Hamburg 1979, all vessels transiting in the Ligurian Sea are urged to maintain a sharp lookout for the missing aircraft. Any potential sightings should be reported immediately to IMRCC Rome. Weather Conditions: Be advised that current weather conditions in the Ligurian Sea include northeasterly winds of 20 knots with waves up to 2 meters high. Weather is expected to worsen in the coming hours. The overdue aircraft and worsening weather conditions make this a time-sensitive search and rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard implores all vessels in the area to actively participate in the search and report any potential sightings as soon as possible.
