Unregistered PLB Alert Reported Off the U.S. East Coast

On February 5, 2025, at 15:05 UTC, the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) Norfolk received an unregistered Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) alert at position 30-35.7N 068-30.3W, approximately 300 nautical miles off the U.S. East Coast. The country of origin for the distress signal is listed as the United States.

Advisory to Mariners

Mariners transiting the area are urged to exercise caution, verify their own emergency equipment, maintain a sharp lookout, and provide assistance if possible. Any relevant information should be reported immediately to RCC Norfolk.

Weather Conditions in the Area

  • Wind: 15 knots, gusting up to 24 knots from the northeast.

  • Waves: Up to 2 meters.

  • Sky Conditions: Clear.

Given the relatively moderate sea conditions, vessels in the vicinity may be able to assist should a distress situation be confirmed.

Sailing Yacht Sunbeam Overdue – Italian Coast Guard Issues Search and Rescue Alert

  UPDATE 08 Sptempber 2024: The vessel was located in the port of Denia. Alarm no longer active. With the post on Facebook the captain lets us know that they are fine: Oisin Margey Hi, I am the captain of Sunbeam. We are fine and currently approaching the East Coast of Spain.
