Sri Lankan Fishing Vessel Adrift in the Indian Ocean


The Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai has issued an alert regarding the Sri Lankan fishing vessel Sanjana 03 (Registration No. IMUL-A-1733 MTR). The vessel, with six crew members onboard, has been reported adrift since January 4, 2025, due to engine failure.

Vessel Details:

  • Name: Sanjana 03

  • Registration Number: IMUL-A-1733 MTR

  • Length: 45 feet

  • Color: Yellow and Brown

Last Known Position:

At 1430 UTC on January 9, 2025, the vessel’s position was reported as:

  • Latitude: 04° 45' South

  • Longitude: 065° 45' East

This places the vessel adrift in the Indian Ocean, southeast of the Maldives.

Weather Conditions:

Mariners in the area are advised to note the following weather conditions:

  • Wind: 15 knots, gusting up to 22 knots from the northwest.

  • Wave Height: Up to 1.5 meters.

  • Sky: Overcast with a chance of rain.

Assistance Requested:

The MRCC Mumbai has requested all mariners transiting the area to maintain a sharp lookout for the Sanjana 03 and render any necessary assistance upon sighting the vessel. Any updates should be reported to MRCC Mumbai.

Mayday! Boat in Distress Near Capraia Island.

  Rome, Italy – July 3, 2024 – An urgent search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway near Capraia Island after a distress call was received by the Italian Coast Guard. The boat in distress, believed to be named "Antalia" or "Altalaia," has reportedly suffered engine failure. The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (IMRCC Rome) has issued a distress alert to all vessels transiting the area, which is defined as a 30 nautical mile radius centered at 43.0N, 10.0E. The alert urges mariners to maintain a sharp lookout and report any possible sightings to IMRCC Rome immediately. Weather conditions in the area are reported as winds up to 14 knots from the North with gusts up to 21 knots, and a wave height of 0.8 meters. The Italian Coast Guard is coordinating the search and rescue efforts in accordance with the SOLAS and SAR conventions. The Italian Coast Guard is urging all mariners in the area to assist in the search and rescue efforts.
