Man Overboard from Sailing Vessel OCEAN BREEZE

The type of boat is different from what was previously reported.

A Man Over Board (MOB) incident has occurred, and a search and rescue operation is underway since the Austrian Volvo 70 Ocean Breeze (skipper Johannes Schwartz) lost a crew member overboard. The operation is coordinated by MRCC Norfolk, USA. According to some Danish sources, the family of the man who fell overboard has been informed.

The United States Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) Norfolk is currently responding to a report of a man overboard from the sailing vessel OCEAN BREEZE.

Details:

  • The incident occurred on December 2nd at approximately 2:03 AM UTC (8:03 AM CET).
  • The OCEAN BREEZE reported the man overboard at position 20-22.985N 042-56.945W (approximately 130 nautical miles east of Bermuda).
  • Current weather conditions in the area include:
    • West-northwesterly winds at 23 knots with gusts up to 30 knots.
    • Possibility of thunderstorms and waves up to 2.9 meters (9.5 feet).
  • The OCEAN BREEZE is a sailing vessel registered in the Netherlands with MMSI number 244573001.

Mariners transiting the area are urged to exercise caution, maintain a sharp lookout for the person overboard, and render assistance if possible.
