Hurricane Warning Issued for the South-West Indian Ocean

A Hurricane Warning has been issued by Météo-France for the South-West Indian Ocean, specifically for


Metearea VII and Metearea VIII. The warning, issued on December 11, 2024, at 0600 UTC, pertains to Tropical Cyclone 4 (Chido), which is currently located within a 20-nautical-mile radius of 10.5 degrees South and 58.4 degrees East.

  • Intensity: Chido is currently an intense tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 969 hPa.
  • Movement: The cyclone is moving westward at a speed of 7 knots.
  • Threat Areas:
    • Squally weather within a 200-nautical-mile radius of the center.
    • Hurricane-force winds (65-80 knots) and very high to phenomenal seas within a 15-nautical-mile radius of the center.
    • Storm-force winds (50-60 knots) and high to very high seas within a 20-nautical-mile radius of the center, extending up to 25 nautical miles in the southern semicircle.
    • Gale-force winds (35-45 knots) and very rough to high seas within a 35-nautical-mile radius of the center, extending up to 50 nautical miles in the southern semicircle.
    • Near gale-force winds (30 knots) and rough to very rough seas within a 60-nautical-mile radius of the center, extending up to 100 nautical miles in the southern semicircle.
    • Strong gusts under squalls.

Forecast:

  • 12 Hours: The cyclone is expected to intensify further, reaching maximum sustained winds of 95 knots by 18 UTC on December 11, 2024.
  • 24 Hours: The cyclone is forecast to maintain its intensity with maximum sustained winds of 95 knots by 06 UTC on December 12, 2024.

Search and Rescue Operation for Overdue Aircraft in Ligurian Sea

Issued by IMRCC Rome - Italian Coast Guard Date: September 17, 2024 To: All Ships Transiting in the Ligurian Sea  A white and grey aircraft with blue stripes is overdue and a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated.  In accordance with the SOLAS Convention and the SAR Convention Hamburg 1979, all vessels transiting in the Ligurian Sea are urged to maintain a sharp lookout for the missing aircraft. Any potential sightings should be reported immediately to IMRCC Rome. Weather Conditions: Be advised that current weather conditions in the Ligurian Sea include northeasterly winds of 20 knots with waves up to 2 meters high. Weather is expected to worsen in the coming hours. The overdue aircraft and worsening weather conditions make this a time-sensitive search and rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard implores all vessels in the area to actively participate in the search and report any potential sightings as soon as possible.
