Search and Rescue Operation for Man Overboard from MT LEO SUN

Urgency: Distress

Incident: A man overboard situation has been reported from the MT LEO SUN, a Crude Oil Tanker sailing under the Liberian flag. The last known position of the missing man is Latitude 36° 39′ N, Longitude 13° 50′ E, reported at 00:00 UTC on October 6, 2024.

Request for Assistance: The Italian Coast Guard, acting as the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) for this area (SAR Case N0 4120), is requesting all vessels in the vicinity to maintain a sharp lookout for any sign of the missing man.

Reporting: If you sight anything that could be related to the missing man, please report it immediately to IMRCC Rome.

  • MT LEO SUN (IMO: 9457608) has a length of 244 meters and a width of 42 meters.
  • Current weather conditions in the area: Southeasterly wind at 13 knots with gusts up to 17 knots. Sea state with waves of 0.6 meters, with a slight chance of worsening. Visibility is good.

Mayday! Boat in Distress Near Capraia Island.

  Rome, Italy – July 3, 2024 – An urgent search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway near Capraia Island after a distress call was received by the Italian Coast Guard. The boat in distress, believed to be named "Antalia" or "Altalaia," has reportedly suffered engine failure. The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (IMRCC Rome) has issued a distress alert to all vessels transiting the area, which is defined as a 30 nautical mile radius centered at 43.0N, 10.0E. The alert urges mariners to maintain a sharp lookout and report any possible sightings to IMRCC Rome immediately. Weather conditions in the area are reported as winds up to 14 knots from the North with gusts up to 21 knots, and a wave height of 0.8 meters. The Italian Coast Guard is coordinating the search and rescue efforts in accordance with the SOLAS and SAR conventions. The Italian Coast Guard is urging all mariners in the area to assist in the search and rescue efforts.
