NATO Air Command Exercise "Ramstein Flag 24" Takes Off in Greece

Andravida Air Base, Greece - October 1, 2024 - The skies over Greece buzzed with activity today as Exercise Ramstein Flag 24, NATO's first-ever Flag series exercise, officially kicked off. The multinational training event, hosted by the Hellenic Air Force (HAF), brings together over 140 aircraft from 12 NATO member states for high-intensity air defense drills.

News of the exercise's launch spread quickly on social media, with the official hashtag #ramsteinflag24 trending across platforms. The Hellenic Air Force (@HAFspokesperson) proudly announced the commencement with the message, "Exercise Ramstein Flag kicks off with our Hellenic Wings springing into action!" accompanied by photos of Greek fighter jets taking flight.



Independent defense observers also joined the conversation. e-Αmyna (@e_amyna) highlighted the participation of Rafale and F-16V fighters from the Hellenic Air Force, while Itamilradar (@ItaMilRadar) confirmed reports of night training exercises. Images and comments from enthusiasts like Robert Maclennan (@robmac2568) and Cem Doğut (@DogutCem) further showcased the international scope of the event.


NATO's Allied Air Command (@NATO_AIRCOM) provided a comprehensive overview of the exercise in a tweet, stating, "NATO's first Flag exercise starting today! Bringing together more than 140 Allied aircraft from 12 Allies. Ramstein Flag is offering high-end training opportunities in a complex realistic operational environment."

Ramstein Flag 24 offers a valuable opportunity for NATO air forces to refine their interoperability and enhance their effectiveness in complex scenarios. The exercise is expected to continue until October 11th, with participants honing their skills in integrated air and missile defense, countering anti-access aerial denial tactics, and fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation within the alliance.

Search and Rescue Operation for Overdue Aircraft in Ligurian Sea

Issued by IMRCC Rome - Italian Coast Guard Date: September 17, 2024 To: All Ships Transiting in the Ligurian Sea  A white and grey aircraft with blue stripes is overdue and a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated.  In accordance with the SOLAS Convention and the SAR Convention Hamburg 1979, all vessels transiting in the Ligurian Sea are urged to maintain a sharp lookout for the missing aircraft. Any potential sightings should be reported immediately to IMRCC Rome. Weather Conditions: Be advised that current weather conditions in the Ligurian Sea include northeasterly winds of 20 knots with waves up to 2 meters high. Weather is expected to worsen in the coming hours. The overdue aircraft and worsening weather conditions make this a time-sensitive search and rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard implores all vessels in the area to actively participate in the search and report any potential sightings as soon as possible.
