Distress Call Issued for BBC Vermont Cargo Ship After Onboard Explosion

UK Coastguard – September 18, 2024 (18:37 UTC): A distress call (MAYDAY) was received today from the general cargo ship BBC Vermont (IMO: 9357236) located at coordinates 48°06.9N 018°36.6W.

Reported Situation:

  • An explosion occurred onboard the BBC Vermont.
  • One crew member is reported unconscious.



Urgent Assistance Needed:

The UK Coastguard is seeking any vessels in the vicinity of the BBC Vermont that are able to assist.

How to Respond:

If your vessel is able to offer assistance, please contact the UK Coastguard immediately.

Additional Information:

  • The BBC Vermont is a general cargo ship sailing under the flag of Antigua Barbuda.
  • The ship's dimensions are 138.5 meters long and 21.34 meters wide.

Weather Conditions in the Area:

  • Wind: Easterly at 10 knots with gusts up to 20 knots.
  • Waves: 2 meters.
  • Sky: Overcast with no precipitation.

Sailing Yacht Sunbeam Overdue – Italian Coast Guard Issues Search and Rescue Alert

  UPDATE 08 Sptempber 2024: The vessel was located in the port of Denia. Alarm no longer active. With the post on Facebook the captain lets us know that they are fine: Oisin Margey Hi, I am the captain of Sunbeam. We are fine and currently approaching the East Coast of Spain.
