Mayday: Aircraft Ditched in North Atlantic

Aberdeen, Scotland (August 13, 2024):
A distress call was issued today by the United Kingdom Coastguard reporting a ditched aircraft in the North Atlantic Ocean.


The aircraft, of unknown type and call sign, was reported to have gone down at position 56°00'N 00°49'W. This location places the incident in the vast expanse of the North Atlantic, hundreds of miles west of Scotland.

The Coastguard is urgently requesting all vessels in the vicinity to proceed to the distress position to assist in the search and rescue operation. Any sightings of the aircraft or survivors should be reported immediately to the UKMRCC or MRCC Aberdeen.

The circumstances surrounding the ditching are currently unknown, and rescue efforts are underway.

In June 2025, the standby safety vessel CHRISTINA DEBORA , 38.77 meters in length, experienced a maritime emergency that culminated in its abandonment in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean after drifting powerless for more than two weeks.
