Search and Rescue Operation for Sailing Vessel with Migrants


Rome, June 17, 2024
– The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (IMRCC) in Rome has issued an urgent notice to all ships transiting in the Mediterranean Sea. The IMRCC is currently conducting a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a sailing vessel carrying 67 migrants. The last known position of the vessel was at latitude 37°11'N and longitude 017°40'E, recorded at 10:00 local time on June 13, 2024.

In accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR Convention, Hamburg 1979), the IMRCC has requested all nearby vessels to remain vigilant and report any possible sightings of the missing vessel.
