Man overboard reported in Bay of Bengal

 Chennai, India - 21 June 2024

A man overboard incident has been reported in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 20 degrees 57 minutes north and 87 degrees 07 minutes east, according to the Indian Coast Guard.

The incident occurred at 1850 UTC on 16 June 2024, on board the MV Jal Vaibhav (IMO 9317389), a bulk carrier sailing under the Indian flag. The vessel was constructed in 2006 and has a length of 228 meters and a width of 36 meters.

The Indian Coast Guard has requested merchant vessels transiting in the area to keep a sharp lookout and render necessary assistance on sighting the person overboard.
