Man Overboard Alert Issued for Crew Member of MV THOR NITNIRUND

[28 June 2024] - The Indian Coast Guard is coordinating a search and rescue operation for a crew


member who went overboard from the bulk carrier MV THOR NITNIRUND earlier today.

The incident occurred at approximately 02:17 UTC (07:47 IST) in the Andaman Sea, at a position of latitude 08° 25' North and longitude 094° 49' East. The missing crew member was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and shorts.

The MV THOR NITNIRUND, a Singaporean-flagged bulk carrier with a length of 199.9 meters, is currently assisting in the search efforts. The Indian Coast Guard has issued a call to all vessels transiting through the area to maintain a sharp lookout for the missing person and to render assistance if he is sighted.

Current weather conditions in the area are:

  • Wind: Southerly at 6 knots with gusts up to 9 knots
  • Waves: 1.2 meters
  • Sky: Cloudy

However, weather is expected to deteriorate in the coming hours, with:

  • Rainfall
  • Increased wind speeds up to 10 knots with gusts up to 15 knots

Vessels in the area that can assist in the search are urged to contact the MRCC Port Blair, India.
