Pirates Attack Cargo Ship in Somali Waters, IMB Warns Vessels

However, UKMTO has since released an update indicating that the boarders have departed the MV and all crew members are safe. The incident serves as a reminder to vessels transiting through high-risk areas to remain vigilant and maintain strict security measures.

 

Warning Issued After Unauthorized Boarding Off Coast of Mogadishu

May 23, 2024 An International Maritime Bureau (IMB) piracy message sent today warns vessels to stay clear of a position roughly 400 nautical miles southeast of Mogadishu, Somalia, following a reported attack on a merchant vessel.

According to the IMB, an unspecified number of unauthorized persons boarded the vessel from two small crafts. The exact details of the incident are unknown at this time.

The IMB urges all vessels in the vicinity to exercise extreme caution and maintain a safe distance from the reported attack location. Early detection and reporting are crucial to allow ships to take evasive actions and request assistance.

The IMB encourages the submission of photographs or videos as evidence of any incidents.
