Oceanographic Buoy Hidronav-100 Adrift Off the Coast of Peru

The Peruvian Maritime Safety Information Coordinator has issued a warning regarding an oceanographic buoy that has become adrift in the Pacific Ocean. The buoy, named Hidronav-100, was last seen near the port of Paita, located in the northwestern region of Peru.


The buoy was first reported to be adrift on May 24th at 03:42:13 UTC, with its position tracked over several hours. The coordinates of the buoy were recorded as follows:


* 03-42-10.67 S, 083-53-24.41 W at 03:42:13 UTC on May 24th

* 03-42-13.27 S, 083-53-41.59 W at 28:01:10 UTC on May 24th

* 03-42-18.28 S, 083-54-04.78 W at 28:01:51 UTC on May 24th


The buoy was last seen moving in a course of 258 degrees with a speed of 1.2 knots. The Peruvian authorities have advised mariners to exercise caution and avoid any collisions with the adrift buoy. The message has since been canceled, but it is unclear whether the buoy has been located or recovered.

Mayday! Boat in Distress Near Capraia Island.

  Rome, Italy – July 3, 2024 – An urgent search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway near Capraia Island after a distress call was received by the Italian Coast Guard. The boat in distress, believed to be named "Antalia" or "Altalaia," has reportedly suffered engine failure. The Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (IMRCC Rome) has issued a distress alert to all vessels transiting the area, which is defined as a 30 nautical mile radius centered at 43.0N, 10.0E. The alert urges mariners to maintain a sharp lookout and report any possible sightings to IMRCC Rome immediately. Weather conditions in the area are reported as winds up to 14 knots from the North with gusts up to 21 knots, and a wave height of 0.8 meters. The Italian Coast Guard is coordinating the search and rescue efforts in accordance with the SOLAS and SAR conventions. The Italian Coast Guard is urging all mariners in the area to assist in the search and rescue efforts.
