Distress Situation Resolved Off the Coast of North Carolina

 The United States Coast Guard (USCG) issued two Inmarsat messages regarding an EPIRB alert received on May 24, 2024.

Initial Alert:

  • At 1:26 AM UTC on May 24, 2024, the RCC Norfolk (US Coast Guard) received an EPIRB alert originating from a position of 37° 25.27′ North and 74° 24.27′ West, located off the coast of North Carolina.
  • The message requested all mariners in the area to assist if possible, maintain a lookout, and report any information to the RCC Norfolk.

Resolution:

  • In a subsequent message received at 3:17 AM UTC on May 24, 2024, the RCC Norfolk reported that the EPIRB alert had been resolved.
  • All individuals in distress were either rescued or assisted.

Case Closed:

The USCG has closed the case associated with this distress situation.

Sailing Yacht Sunbeam Overdue – Italian Coast Guard Issues Search and Rescue Alert

  UPDATE 08 Sptempber 2024: The vessel was located in the port of Denia. Alarm no longer active. With the post on Facebook the captain lets us know that they are fine: Oisin Margey Hi, I am the captain of Sunbeam. We are fine and currently approaching the East Coast of Spain.
