Distress Call Issued for Greek Yacht Eros II in Ionian Sea

An Inmarsat message was received today, April 17th, 2024, at 19:26:49 UTC from the Italian Coast Guard (IMRCC Rome) regarding a missing Greek yacht named Eros II.

The information has been combined with an earlier message from the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Piraeus/Greece (JRCC Piraeus) received at 16:39:55 UTC.

Eros II departed Corfu, Greece, on April 14th, 2024, and was headed towards Catania, Italy. It is now overdue and considered to be in a difficult situation.

The yacht is described as a 12-meter vessel with a white hull and a blue mast. Its MMSI number is 239590900. There is one person on board, a 70-year-old Greek national.

Current weather conditions in the area:

  • Northwesterly winds at 23 knots with gusts up to 31 knots
  • Good visibility
  • 2-meter waves

The Italian Coast Guard and the Greek Joint Rescue Coordination Center are requesting all vessels currently transiting the Ionian Sea to be on the lookout for Eros II and to report any sightings or relevant information.

Search and Rescue Operation for Overdue Aircraft in Ligurian Sea

Issued by IMRCC Rome - Italian Coast Guard Date: September 17, 2024 To: All Ships Transiting in the Ligurian Sea  A white and grey aircraft with blue stripes is overdue and a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated.  In accordance with the SOLAS Convention and the SAR Convention Hamburg 1979, all vessels transiting in the Ligurian Sea are urged to maintain a sharp lookout for the missing aircraft. Any potential sightings should be reported immediately to IMRCC Rome. Weather Conditions: Be advised that current weather conditions in the Ligurian Sea include northeasterly winds of 20 knots with waves up to 2 meters high. Weather is expected to worsen in the coming hours. The overdue aircraft and worsening weather conditions make this a time-sensitive search and rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard implores all vessels in the area to actively participate in the search and report any potential sightings as soon as possible.
