Merchant Vessel Attacked Off Yemeni Coast

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an attack on the merchant vessel "True Confidence" 54 nautical miles southwest of Aden, Yemen, near the coordinates 11°49'00"N 044°38'00"E.

The "True Confidence" is a Barbadian-flagged bulk carrier that departed Lianyungang, China and was en route to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Latest update:

  • The "True Confidence" was confirmed to have been hit, damaged, and abandoned by its crew at the location 11°55'42"N 044°30'24"E.
  • The vessel is currently no longer under command (NUC).
  • Coalition Forces are assisting the vessel and the crew.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has accused the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels of launching an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) at the "True Confidence."

According to CENTCOM:

  • The attack occurred at approximately 11:30 AM (Sanaa time) on March 6th.
  • The attack resulted in three fatalities, at least four injuries (three critical), and significant damage to the vessel.
  • This is the fifth ASBM launched by the Houthis in the last two days.
  • Two other ASBMs struck M/V MSC Sky II and one was shot down by USS Carney (DDG 64).

Authorities are investigating the incident.

  • Report any suspicious activity to UKMTO

Search and Rescue Operation for Overdue Aircraft in Ligurian Sea

Issued by IMRCC Rome - Italian Coast Guard Date: September 17, 2024 To: All Ships Transiting in the Ligurian Sea  A white and grey aircraft with blue stripes is overdue and a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated.  In accordance with the SOLAS Convention and the SAR Convention Hamburg 1979, all vessels transiting in the Ligurian Sea are urged to maintain a sharp lookout for the missing aircraft. Any potential sightings should be reported immediately to IMRCC Rome. Weather Conditions: Be advised that current weather conditions in the Ligurian Sea include northeasterly winds of 20 knots with waves up to 2 meters high. Weather is expected to worsen in the coming hours. The overdue aircraft and worsening weather conditions make this a time-sensitive search and rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard implores all vessels in the area to actively participate in the search and report any potential sightings as soon as possible.
