March 15, 2024 - A merchant vessel operating in the Indian Ocean near Hudaydah, Yemen, reported a close call with potential missile activity today.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued a warning (UKMTO WARNING INCIDENT 052) earlier today regarding an incident approximately 76 nautical miles west of Hudaydah. The nature of the incident remains unclear, with authorities currently investigating.Later, UKMTO issued an update (UKMTO WARNING INCIDENT 052 UPDATE 001) detailing a separate report from a different merchant vessel located 50 nautical miles southwest of Hudaydah. This vessel's captain reported observing two missiles flying overhead followed by two loud explosions in the distance. Fortunately, the vessel itself sustained no damage and the crew are all safe. The ship is currently continuing its journey to its next destination.
At this time, it is unclear if the two reported incidents are linked. Authorities are investigating both events.
